So cute. But so wrong. Just being a wonderful and gifted writer doesn’t mean you’re any good at explaining to nonwriters what it’s like in your head. 

We are all operating Black Boxes. Most of our theories of how we operate are crap. (I’m a former psychiatric nurse, and I don’t always understand how the Writing Brain and the Non-Writing Brain interact. I hope to before I die.)

You could as easily make a case that a writer is one person trying to be lots of people: spinning off various character traits (good, bad, useful, loathesome, cunning, gullible, cruel, kindly, clueless, genius-y) into any number of characters.

After a busy day of writing, if you’re lucky, consolidation comes while you sleep: when you wake up you’re just [you] wondering if the sink is full of dishes and whether there are enough teabags / coffeepods to rev you up before you have to start work. You’ll spend the rest of the day creatively fragmenting and de-fragmenting yourself. And with some luck, you’ll get the grammar right.
